Periodically, God gives me a word. Sometimes the meaning isn't immediately clear to me. Sometimes it is very loud and clear. Recently, God gave me Surrender. This one had immediate meaning and has continued to evolve.
At first, it meant I needed to let go of things I was trying to control. I had to fully surrender them to Him. This reminded me of a story I had heard a while ago. I don't know who to credit but I will give you the short version. A child brought a toy to a toy maker to be fixed. The child kept checking on the toy to see if it was fixed. The toy maker finally told the child that he can't fix the toy unless he is able to fully trust him and his timing. This is what God wants of us. He wants us to fully trust Him and his timing. We need to fully surrender.
This isn't about sitting back and doing nothing. This is about allowing Him to guide you and your next actions. After recognizing that I have been doing things my own way, I needed to surrender my efforts and ideas and allow myself to be guided by Him.
In many situations, I've found that I need to take a moment and breathe. Sometimes I need to take a few moments. With each breath, I surrender my ways to God and His way becomes clearer. I continue to learn and grow in His ways!
Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
